Huge congratulations goes out to Chris Bertish who tamed the monster swell at Mavericks this weekend to claim the $50,000 prize purse on offer.

The highlight of the contest, other than the amazingly talented skills of the world best big wave riders was the huge rogue wave that got a little close for comfort for many of the spectators. Several people were injured in the incident, a couple of breaks and fractures. Still, hundreds of people flocked to the headlands and beaches to watch this amazing contest Watch the freak wave incident for yourself here:

You can buy pretty much anything in America, and when it comes to surfboards there is an array of wonderful shapes and sizes…..we were in our element!!!!  As you already may have guessed I couldn’t resist buying a few (I had a few regrets once I had to lug a 30kg board bag through Heathrow Airport)  but I am stoked!!  I took one board out there and came back with 3 new additions.  My 9′0 Bear longboard is my favorite…..closely followed by my 5′10 Al Merrick Pod (Kelly Slater won’t go away without one) and my custom made Chemistry 5′9 Single Fin……… which I haven’t ridden yet but looks amazing. Hopefully these boards will have some killer sessions out at Watergate this summer
